The Wisdom of “I Won’t”

Figuring out what to do

is impossible.

We have partial data

AND

delayed feedback.

It is impossible to figure out what to do.

We do have illusions of certainty.

Delusions of “I know.”

Figuring out what not to do is

possible.

It’s available.

It’s restraint.

Restraint is self-imposed.

It’s intentional inaction.

It’s clarity without control.

It’s choosing to hold back

even when no one else would notice if I didn’t.

Especially then.

A constraint tells me, “I can’t.”

A restraint says, “I won’t,”

or more honestly,

“I chose not to.”

It’s the wisdom to recognize

that something possible,

available,

easy,

or even expected,

isn’t aligned.

Restraint isn’t hesitation.

It’s calibration.

It’s knowing I may not know what’s right.

It’s knowing what’s wrong.

It’s knowing what never works.

It’s knowing what not to do.
