Where our words come together in a daily email.

Becoming Isn’t a Bonus

We’re told goals are about achievement.

Do the thing.

Get the thing.

Be the winner.

Achievement is a wonderful thing to feel.

Harder to accomplish.

It’s tied to outcome.

Outcomes are above our pay grade.

There’s no question I want the outcome.

The question is:

Can I control the outcome?

A better question I uncovered is:

What if a goal is the mental target for what I am becoming?

That’s something I can control.

If I become the kind of person who does the work,

who aligns effort with purpose,

who acts with intention,

then I’ve already met the goal.

Even if the outcome never shows up.

What I have found,

is when I become,

what usually shows up

is better.

Achievement is a scoreboard.

Becoming is a trajectory.

When goals are about becoming,

I don’t have to wait for proof.

I’m the evidence.
