Where our words come together in a daily email.

I Always Have an Opinion

I already have one.

I always do.

It’s not a matter of choice.

It’s a matter of awareness.

Opinion isn’t optional.

It’s automatic.

My system formed one

the moment contact was made.

The only question is whether I’ll name it.

Naming an opinion is courage.

As is changing one.

As is holding one.

I don’t need permission to have one.

I might need courage to say it out loud.

When I pretend I don’t have an opinion,

what I’m really saying is,

“I don’t want to be responsible

for what I believe.”

That might feel safe.

It might even feel smart.

It’s cowardice.

The brave don’t always shout.

They don’t pretend they’re silent either.

They know:

Every response is an opinion.

Every choice is a stance.

Every delay is a position.

I have an opinion.

What matters is what I do with it.
