Knowing is an intellectual orientation.
Becoming is a physical process.
Knowing collects insight.
Becoming integrates it
through action.
Knowing is safe.
Becoming comes with risk.
Knowing gives me the delusion of control.
Becoming requires surrender.
I can know all the right things
and stay the same.
Knowing is almost guaranteed.
Prompt, read, memorize, repeat.
Becoming at best is unpredictable.
Messy.
Costly.
It asks something of me.
It asks me to let go
of who I’ve been.
To risk failure in public.
To learn in public.
To choose discomfort over certainty.
I don’t become
by understanding.
I become
by
becoming.
Until the insight lives in my decisions,
my patterns,
my actions,
Knowing is where I feel safe.
Becoming is where I develop.
