Independence isolates.
Agency engages.
Independence says,
“I don’t need anyone.”
Agency says,
“I’ll choose how I show up with others.”
I love the idea of independence.
Self-made, self-sufficient, untouched.
It’s a lie.
An illusion I see in others.
A delusion I tell myself.
We are interdependent.
It’s not a matter of belief.
It’s not a matter of preference.
It’s not even a matter of choice.
The only choice is how we participate in that reality.
Agency is that choice.
Not forced.
Not passive.
Intentional.
Voluntary.
Sometimes even enthusiastic.
Agency can be aligning up.
It can be opting out.
It doesn’t pretend self-sufficiency.
It practices self-responsibility.
It is my expression inside of a system.
Agency is not separation.
It’s ownership inside connection.
