I am drawn to good things.
Good ideas.
Good people.
Good opportunities.
Good work that needs doing.
Good gets my attention.
It also makes it harder for me to say no.
I can see the value.
I can see the need.
I can see how I might help.
That is enough for me to step in.
It feels generous.
Useful.
Responsible.
Maybe even necessary.
Then something changes.
My attention divides.
My effort thins.
My contribution becomes less clear.
I start carrying what I was meant to notice.
That is where I get confused.
I mistake my ability to help for an indication to do.
A better question:
What is required?
That question does not make the thing less good.
It helps me discern appreciation and assignment.
Some good things are mine to contribute to.
Some are mine to encourage.
Some are mine to leave untouched.
Good is not the problem.
Assuming every good thing is mine is the problem.
Some good is not mine.
