Discernment Is the Work

There was a time when ideas were scarce.

Now they’re everywhere.

Good ones.

Bad ones.

Almost-right ones.

All arriving at once.

I don’t struggle to generate.

I struggle to choose.

What matters now?

What fits?

What moves things forward instead of sideways?

Discernment sounds quiet.

Almost passive.

It isn’t.

It’s pressure.

To decide without certainty.

To move without full clarity.

To hold a standard while everything speeds up.

I can produce ten directions.

That’s not the work.

The work is choosing one

and letting the others go.

That’s where it gets uncomfortable.

Every option carries possibility.

Choosing closes all but one of them.

Discernment is more than preference.

It’s responsibility.

I don’t get credit for what I could have done.

Only for what I do.

Discernment is the work.

Everything else is possibility.
